Summary:
A modern take on the classic novels, BBC's Sherlock follows the world's only consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes, and his trusty blogger, John Watson as they solve crimes ranging from glowing bunnies to acrobatic serial killers. They are often joined by Detective Lestrade, who often requires their help, and Mycroft, Sherlock’s brother who has some sort of government position. Most of their cases are harmless enough, but some are far more sinister and they’re quickly realizing that someone is deliberating playing with Sherlock, but who?
Review:
Even though every possible version of Sherlock Holmes has been done before, Steve Moffat and Mark Gatiss managed to create a show unlike anything viewers may have seen before. By continuously taking inspiration from the original novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle while adding their own unique twist, they have successfully created a binge-worthy show. Each episode has its own mystery for the duo to solve, but also contains foreshadowing for the next “villain” they will face, resulting in an overarching mystery each season. The relationship between Sherlock and John is fundamental as we see how these two flawed characters “fix” one another in their own ways and watching Sherlock deduce someone into embarrassment never gets old. The 90 minute long episodes may scare you off, but this show is definitely worth the watch!
